As part of our "Keepers of the Land" topic, year 1 took our maps and clipboards out into Handsworth, our local area. Children spotted many types of houses such as terraced, semi detached, detached, bungalows and flats. We looked at houses which were old and found clues such as old street signs on them and we compared them to new build houses and even some houses being built! We spotted local amenities such as the sword dancer, mcdonalds, the dentist, the post office, the doctors, nail salons, fish and chips and more! The children loved exploring the area and using their maps to know where they were.
