Enrichment
At St. At Joseph’s Catholic Academy, we believe that all children are entitled to a rich and wide curriculum which will help them to develop and grow to become confident members of the school and the wider community.
We make sure that children have access to a wide and rich set of opportunities, many of which are delivered as after-school clubs. We feel that this enables children to develop their skills and talents right across the curriculum. Many of the clubs are run by our very talented teachers and others by external professionals.
Sporting Opportunities:
Our pupils are very enthusiastic about sport and have enjoyed taking part in many after school sports clubs, and representing our school for sporting festivals and competitions.
This year we have offered an extensive variety of sports clubs including football, running, rugby, Funergise, multi-sports and martial arts. We have also gained a love for sports and active games through festivals, with children attending festivals for Change For Life, multi-skills, indoor athletics; and also participating in the annual Y6 Football Catholic Cup competition and Y5 boys and girls competing in the Kwik Cricket finals.
We had a proud day at the English Institute of Sport where all the children from Y1-6 participated in our St. Joseph’s Sports Day 2017. The children represented our school well and also witnessed Great British Olympic gold medal winner Dame Jessica Ennis-Hill filming as we competed in a wide range of sporting activities. We had a fantastic day and hope to repeat the occasion many times in the future.
Music at St Joseph's:
Music is a real strength of the school and the children are offered a number of opportunities to take part in musical activities during their time with us.
Children are taught a weekly music/singing lesson by a specialist teacher. Singing is also taught fortnightly to the whole school during our singing assemblies. We have a very popular choir, who perform at various whole-school events and also sing last events in the wider community. We have a Musical Theatre after-school club, which, again, is extremely popular.
Our Y4 children have regular violin lessons with a specialist from the music hub.
This year we have introduced Rock Steady sessions, where the children have the opportunity to try different rock music instruments and to perform in a rock band.
