Reception WB 29.4.19
This week we are going to be continuing our new topic, “How Does Your Garden Grow”. We have been reading the story of “Jack and the Bean Stalk” and planting and writing instructions how to plant our own bean stalks. This week we are going to act out the story, think of a different ending and think about how the giant might feel when Jack came to his castle. We will be designing our own castle and land in the sky.
In maths we are starting a new focus of numbers to 20, securing these before we move on. Our star words this week are;
Number names, more, fewer, order, greater, less, one group of ten, pattern, between, before, after, groups, first, last, ordinal numbers.
This term we will be also be focusing on story writing and we will be encouraging everyone to have a go at writing a story that we can act out at the end of the day.
After our Easter celebrations we are moving on to our new R.E. topic Pentecost – serving: Good News. This term we will be sharing our good news and recognising that everyone has good news to share. We will be learning about the story of Pentecost is the celebration of the coming of the Holy Spirit and celebrates the good news that Jesus’ spirit is always with us.
In Phonics we will be revisiting the sounds we have learnt from last term and moving on to the next sounds in. We will also be looking at capital letters and securing simple sentences and captions.
Show and tell will continue on Friday afternoons. I have sent out some home learning ideas and the items can be anything including drawing, writing, or a joke (ideally not a toy) linked to our current topic “How Does Your Garden Grow” to ensure we maximise full learning. Show and tell allows children to work on their questioning skills and gain confidence in front of their peers.
